OUR 60th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
On Thursday August 16th 2018, over 60 members and guests gathered at The Granary Hotel, Shenstone for an afternoon of fun and friendship, organised by the Committee. The dining room looked resplendent having been decorated with beautiful flowers bedecked with ‘diamonds' in a pedestal made by our Chairman Lesley Vanezis, and table arrangements by the Committee which were later won by anyone sitting on a ‘lucky’ chair! Everyone received a charming handmade gift in suitably glitzy wrapping and, after a welcoming speech from our Chairman, settled down to a most delicious 3 course lunch followed by coffee and a slice of the celebration lemon and elderflower cake made by Lorna Hill (inspired by a recent royal wedding). Our joint Chairmen, Lesley Vanezis and Pam Gattas cut the cake after the meal so that we could all have a slice with our coffee!
We were delighted to have been joined by honoured guests Ann Tristram, President of the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS, and Katherine Kear, Chairman of the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS and of course our demonstrator, “the singing florist”, Jane Pugh.
Jane’s demonstration was inspired by chocolate, an intriguing subject choice! Whilst filling the stage with colourful arrangements she regaled us with amusing anecdotes, interesting facts and singing! Her enthusiasm and smiling face delighted the audience. She used a selection of beautiful flowers from her shop. Her first arrangement was in Cadbury’s purple, the next inspired by Smarties using an array of colourful gerberas, then peppermint Aero, mainly in greens including trailing Amaranthus. Then followed two mainly orange and brown hand tied bunches to depict Terry’s chocolate orange, and finally a taste of paradise -
It was a Wonderful afternoon, much enjoyed by everyone, and a fitting way to celebrate the 60 years success of Bromsgrove Flower Club.
