Sharon Dower

This month we welcomed Sharon Dower, a highly experienced and accomplished florist and demonstrator, from Swansea. Her demonstration, ‘Nature’s Castoffs’, was very well received by the audience. We were delighted that 45 members attended and 13 guests as well, who were all enthusiastic and appreciative of Sharon’s skills and repartee at this, her first visit to Bromsgrove.

Sharon’s designs incorporated creative use of many types of wood which might normally have been discarded, such as pieces of bamboo, bark, old twigs, pine and ivy roots, which she used as bases, supports and backgrounds. A range of foliage was used to tie in with the background colours and shapes and to set off the variety of contrasting colours in the flowers. As well as the demonstration, various stalls sold quality goods including plants, jams, chutneys, cakes, bring and buy and second hand clothing. These, as well as the raffle, were well supported by members and guests.  Sharon kindly gave us permission to post all of her lovely designs which you can see below, together with the competition winning designs.
